Gamescom 2022: Find this year as a hybrid
It has long been that a video game fair did not take place virtually. With the new year the hope comes on more live events. The organizers of Gamescom e.g. have announced that the event will take place live on the spot again this year. Over the last two years, GamesCom was held as a pure digital event due to Covid restrictions, but could now take place again in the well-tried format.
The Gamescom 2022 will take place at the latest information after 24th to 28th August and held as a hybrid event on site in Cologne and at the same time online. The organizers of Koelnmesse and the Association of the German Games Industry (Game) announced on Thursday, as Games Economy reports.
For all trade fair days, there should be a limited card quota. As this fails, it is not yet known. Also, the sale of the cards will be started later than usual: the ticket presale is planned only from May. Change will also be a lot in the exhibition process. Full corridors and forever long queues will no longer exist in the usual dimensions. A new trade fair concept was developed, which should enable extracted gears, improved intake management and a high-quality queue management "top residence quality" and a "secure visit".
The converted hall 1 will serve e-sport and entertainment formats from this year. Underneath will also be the opening show Gamescom: Opening Night Live, which is again produced by Geoff Keighley. Nevertheless, the division into Business Area and Entertainment Area of the rest of the GamesCom terrain. As usual, it is also the Cosplay Village, which give Indie Area, Retro Area and Merchandise Area.
The organizers also announced a new "Gamescom Goes Green" initiative, which aims to make the fair "in the medium and long term by reducing and avoiding CO2 emissions and at short notice by carbon equalization."
Although there are no concrete commitments of exhibitors, Koelnmesse Managing Director Oliver Frese was confident in the press conference on Gamescom 2022, because there were "convincing tailwind from the Games industry".
