The Gamescom 2022 will take place on site in Cologne
The E3 may exception, but 2022 promises to be well as the year of the big return to normal (or not far) for the gathering of the video game industry. In addition to events already confirmed like the GDC, the EVO and the Tokyo Game Show, the organizers of Gamescom confirm that the Cologne show will open its doors to the public and professionals, from 24 to 28 August.
As confirmed by Felix Falk, General Manager of the GERMAN GAMES Industry Association and co-organizer of the event, there is no question of selling as many tickets as in 2019, pre-pandemic edition who had seen a Record of 370,000 visitors, but enough for the Gamescom to keep its most visited exposure title in the field of video game. "I will have a great atmopshere, but not too many people", commented Felix Falk. According to the latter, the Gamescom 2022 promises to be "_The best of both worlds" since it will retain the presence and digital activities developed over the last two years.
Expected in the evening of August 23, the Opening Night Live_, Traditional Opening Ceremony Live by Geoff Keighley, will of course always be broadcast on the internet and will also take place on the spot in a brand new hall built during the pandemic. At this point, there is no question of establishing a first list of exhibitors. "_Certain companies still need more time, but the demand is there and the very high interest. We expect new Asian participants who have never participated in Gamescom, come together." Felix Falk.
The implementation of the plans of the Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show throws all the doubt about the intentions of the organizers of the E3, who have not communicated since the beginning of the year and only confirmed that 'No rally would take place on site in Los Angeles. Several voices of the industry, including that of Jason Schreier, felt that the historic show was potentially dead. In all cases, Geoff Keighley, again, will be at the rendezvous to bring together upon ads around his Summer Game Fest, without forgetting that many publishers have become accustomed to organizing separate events from two years.
